i was just reading online that an Indian american woman won the sundance jury award for a film about a rape in Kashmir by the indian army. she is at graduate school at berkeley. and i was reading a website that bashed her. a forum of open commentary and they were slamming her. indians and indian americans saying that of course the orientalist sundance folks voted her in or god damn... now all white people will think that the indian army is brutal and horrible. hindus were pissed that she didnt show the muslims murdering the villagers and writing over them in urdu.
well guess what- the indian army is brutal. and so is the pakistani army as is the US army with all these american women coming forward that they have been raped in the service. and the rape went down in Kashmir by the Indian Army and my squemishness about representing india poorly to a bunch of westerners or my allegiance to india does not go far enough to rally for the hiding of a rape.
but there is the big picture that directors need to bring it together. the manipulation of the suffering during sept 11 is a big time manipulation of one angle to satisfy so many abhorrent means.
i wrote too much about that wanted to tell the weekend-- which was off the heezy but that will be next time.
i am in surgery- 5 am till 8 pm yesterday. i like the sun, i think. it is hard to be in the hospital that long.
i ran in central park today. got off a little earlier. the resovoir is still ice. but it was warmer and i am coming around almost a full year of living and running in central park. and seeing the seasons- i am waiting for the the bursting of the central park trees

but i guess you cant show the suicide bombers in isolation. there is the bulldozer that came before and the cousins that were buried possibly and so many events and so many brutalities that led up to the bomb and the suicide. not to excuse but that certain utter hopelessness came from somewhere. came before its not in our bones from the start.
anyway, it is something to see the allegiance to an area or a region or a homeland that will push people to say well don't give so much attention to that rape- look what the other side does. the self reflection is absent.
