cornel west on WED night at the RIVERSIDE Memorial church was phenomenal!!! a sermon to sanctify. on blues and the gospel. he is the best speaker i have ever seen. period. he went off on how when after Sept llth the entire country is despised and the subject of random acts of violence. it means the whole country has been nigerized. and you got to lean on black people, a blues people... I been down for so long, down dont bother me no more...
he said america is a hotel civilization where the lights are on all the time. they dont want to deal with the piss and shit and suffering of life. the darkness that is inherent in life. when you leave the hotel room and come back afterwards, you dont want to know who cleaned it or how. a peter pan civilization that doesnt want to grow up. he talked about the love ethic of james baldwin and toni morrison and curtis mayfield and how the gospel has the blues in it because it has the cross in it. the blood of jesus in it. either we hang together or we hang separately, he said. i met him afterwards for a second.
medicine can be phenomenal. my life is pretty practical these days. if i dont understand something i read about it. if my patient has pancreatitis i know i have to learn about it so i can be of some use.
we told a woman that cancer had spread. she had 4-6 months. what could i tell her or what did i know at all. so i looked up in the GITA. a practical attempt at something directly in front of me.
it takes dedication to do anything right and i am getting better at discipline.
i hung out with pavi and filmakers all weekend. i was a little out of my element. but thats cool. i worked all sat.
the winter is coming. it can get a little lonely at times in a studio. looks like i got to find some blues people or a lover or a sanga or something. but anyway, im doing all right.
