thich nhat hahn interview, i've been reading. he covers both dichotomies of compassion(spiritual) and action(political) so so well.
Do you believe things happen for a reason? If so, what was the reason for the attacks on the U.S.A.?
The deep reason for our current situation is our patterns of consumption. U.S.A. citizens consume 60% of the world's energy resources yet they account for only 6% of the total world's population. Children in America have witnessed 100,000 acts of violence on television by the time they finish elementary school. Another reason for our current situation is our foreign policy and the lack of deep listening within our relationships. We do not use deep listening to understand the suffering and the real needs of people in other nations.

these days are study days in the snow. white everywhere.
there is a cleansing feeling to it.
school was cancelled today and i studied from 4pm till now. 1:50 am and i am still slightly on LA time.
this weekend was fun and crowded with a sprinkle of drama here and there. Bhavna brought home this guy she's been seeing. he stayed from fri morning till sunday afternoon. i dont know if my folks were too happy about that. he is indian christian. like john. if bhavna goes that route the hindu heritage weight will be on me. :)
18 folks in the house at one time. day in day out. about 70 showed for the shanti. the retaking of marriage vows by my parents. the house was decorated with colorful saris around the hallway.
i was running around trying to make people feel welcome and still participate in the puja. it was mostly a social gathering on friday. my parents were taken out to the backyard and people smeared haldi on their hands and feet. I held the pot strainer over their head and one by one people poured their lota onto my mom and dads head. soaked in a full sari and punche.
i got sick saturday from all the lack of the sleep and being displaced from my room and bed like a refugee.
sunday took the read eye back to school.
the main news here is that Luis got his girlfriend pregnant. crazy. but the mexican mentality border brother construction family he comes from was just happy for him. No are you gonna keep the baby? so so different to what would go down if i got my girlfriend pregnant.
anyway, him and maria were going to get hitched soon so its no big deal. just the finances and shit might be tough.
trying to kick it into high gear. exams coming. my parents are coming on sunday too. for a visit. they have never seent the campus. they are going to be in town in phili and will just drive up.
